Finding the right STP can be an expensive, stressful quest. It took me weeks of scrolling, buying, and fitting out different kinds. After all the models I’ve tried, I think the Model D STP is one of the best. Keep scrolling for my in-depth Model D STP review: why it makes me feel secure, and what features make it stand out!
Being able to use an STP (or stand-to-pee) device can really give you a confidence boost when you’re out in public. The last thing I need when I have a full bladder is to feel insecure in the restroom, when all I want to do is pee and get it over with. Sure, I could use a stall, but there are times when they’re all occupied. I should be able to use a urinal without thinking or worrying about standing out, just like everyone else!
The solution to this awkward situation is to get equipped with a good STP that isn’t hard to use, but it’s important to get the right one! It’s not enough that you’re just packing – to make the cut, a top-notch STP should stay in place with minimal adjustment while you do your thing, otherwise you’re just going to make a mess and feel a stronger sense of dysphoria.
In my quest to find something that looks like the real deal and doesn’t move a lot when I pee or play a sport, I’ve tried pretty much every kind of STP. From your basic no-frills funnels and spoons that have zero realistic appearance, to expensive prosthetics complete with balls and cut choices, you name it, I’ve tried it. There are many options on the market, and I’ve tried a whole range just to compare which ones are really worth the buy.
Model D STP Review
The Model D STP gets extra points first off the bat for being pretty realistic. You have three colors to choose from: light, medium, or dark, depending on your preference. You can even choose to have one that appears cut or uncut. This may not seem like a big deal, but it was a massive confidence boost that helped me feel more comfortable in my own skin, especially when I needed to use common washrooms. Make sure you pick one that you think will match your skin tone, because picking the wrong color may increase dysphoria.
The Model D is 4.5 inches long and has some reasonably hefty balls, which do have a tendency to hang down a bit too low on the body for some people. If you’re a bit on the short side, this may not be the right fit for you, but personally the cut sat just fine on me. The bulge doesn’t stand out too much on my body, but other people may need to adjust it from time to time. Otherwise, it was quite easy to start using this STP, whether I wanted to wear sport sweatpants or skinny jeans. Other people recommend packing it on the side or pointed up for a better fit, but pointing down was just fine for me.
It comes with instructions so you can cut and sew a harness to hold it in place, but I opted to buy a ready-made Slingshot Harness, since I didn’t feel like going the DIY route. Once I fitted it in, I was able to go about my day in comfort. I could even wear it while doing an exercise or sport without having it shift too much.
The Model D STP is a hollow shaft that doesn’t feel sticky even with continued use throughout the day. It’s made of silicone, so all I need is soap and water to keep it clean, and it will last for years with no need for replacement. When I want to do a more thorough job of sterilizing, I occasionally clean it in boiling water. The material is strong enough to withstand this, so I wasn’t worried about possible damage.
Sometimes I worry about the inconvenience of friction when I play a sport for several hours, so I use a little cornstarch to help cool down and reduce any possible chafing from the hard material. This hard silicone is what keeps it from getting sticky despite regular use, but it’s also what keeps it from feeling like a second skin.
Take note that as with every STP, it can take a bit of practice to get it right. I had to watch for any possible backflow to prevent peeing on myself, and I had to work on leaning a bit forward and shaking it out carefully. If you don’t shake it, you will definitely get some backflow, so I really had to be mindful about this! Thankfully, after a few tries, it was pretty effortless to use.
The Model D is a bit pricier than your more basic STPs, but it looks a lot more like the real thing that the cheaper options, so I think it’s worth it.
- + It’s fairly realistic, which can eliminate anxiety when you have to go in a public place.
- + Durable silicone material for shaft and balls makes it easy to wash clean
- – More expensive than less-detailed STPs
- – Needs a bit of practice before you can use it leak-free
An STP is the best tool you can buy to help you feel more confident in your own skin, and help you stand up and pee with pride. The Model D is comfortable, looks sufficiently like the real deal, and will minimize the chances of backflow after you learn to use it properly.
It may not be the cheapest option you can buy, but if you want a reliable STP that will stay in place even with regular physical activity, get the Model D and the Slingshot Harness. It’s a good investment that will help reduce dysphoria and prevent the embarrassing scenario of getting pee on yourself when you’re at the urinals.
